Senator Chuck Schumer is lobbying the Senate to join him in compelling certain Americans to participate in his party’s efforts to remove President Trump from office; because it is the only way they can prevent him from being reelected in 2020.
Schumer claims these so called witness are necessary to reveal relevant facts; but the facts are already known and undisputed; including the fact that the President did nothing illegal or different than when President Obama threatened to withhold school funding from schools who refused to allow males to use female restroom facilities; or when President Reagan threatened to withhold highway funds from states that did not raise their minimum drinking age to 21.
Whether the recipient is foreign or domestic, preconditions on disbursements of federal funds is a common practice and heretofore there have been no proscribed preconditions. Therefore the President did nothing illegal or unprecedented so that any witness testimony relative to the call is moot.
The only reason Schumer wants the testimony is to try and ascribe a nefarious context to the call.
Moreover, if the house made the charge, the house is responsible for making the case; beginning with proving the President committed a high crime or misdemeanor. Inasmuch as congress has never bothered to promulgate acts which fall under either heading, it is unlikely the house can make the case, because the United States Constitution says, “No bill of attainder or ex post facto law shall be passed.”; so that even if congress passed legislation today, it would only apply if the President committed the act again.
Only a shyster lawyer would lobby for a conviction where no law has been broken; that is why we know Schumer is a shyster.
